This workshop is the second session of our 4-Part Natural Building Series.

Natural Building Design Workshop + Home Tour

July 30-31

If you are interested in building your own natural home, this is a great place to start. We will explore the design process for a natural home, and get our feet dirty mixing earthen cob (cob=clay/sand/straw) to be used for making design models. Everyone will make their own model (at least one!), and enjoy the benefits that three-dimensions can add to the design process. We will learn about optimal siting on your land, passive solar design, and the benefits and limits of natural wall systems.

People are encouraged to get as creative and whimsical as they wish. We will include practical considerations, such as wiring/plumbing, foundations, and roof design. On Sunday, we will take a field trip to tour local, permitted natural homes, where we will do a Q+A with the owner/builders! Our tour will end at the campus of the nearby Mud Dauber School of Natural Building, and an invitation to explore the various natural/earthen cottages there.

We will begin at 9:00am and end our days around 4:30pm each day. A wholesome, vegetarian lunch will be served each day.
